Legerdemain is the 2nd in a series of recordings for an imaginary keyboard. Like Palmistry, it is a sequence of short preludes for computer and sampled piano. Diverse, witty, highly rhythmic and often melodic, it traverses many styles from blues and boogie-woogie, to xotes, tangos, circus tunes, with occasional side trips into aleatoric worlds.
Wide Life is an album of scores for contemporary dance, theater, and video installations. Visual and kinetic, it spans Jon's love of electronica, Chopin, Latin, Bulgarian, Brazilian, and chamber music. With over 20 resourceful musicians from California and Rio de Janeiro, the music is lyrical, rhythmical, whimsical, and wise.
Palmistry is an exploration of possibilities for computer and virtual piano. These etudes are in turn charming, melodic, eccentric, and full of rhythmic vitality. It's keyboard music for 2,3,4, and 5 hands.
Albert's Bicycle is in a more contemplative vein. Included are pieces for gallery installations and multi-media dance/theater. There is a probing quality and gentle glisten. The album features Jon's mixing his various musical styles and influences with samples and midi files, as well as some solo work by the brilliant Brazilian accordionist, Chico Chagas.
Listening to the Earth was originally scored for a full-length children's dance concert written and directed by Tandy Beal. The concert has been performed in numerous locations throughout the U.S. with over 5,000 children participating.
